Self-Help Goes A long Way (Don’t Be Ashamed!)

It’s finally Friday! A chance to breathe and welcome in the weekend with open arms! The last couple of posts, I’ve been focusing on self-care and mental health challenges that I relate to and for you as well. I didn’t write a post last week simply because I got lazy! LOL. I never run out of content to write about. In this week’s post, I want to talk about some books I purchased from amazon and from Five-Below. I used to read fiction novels all the time, but some point down the line, I stopped; not sure why though. I want to start reading books about self help and things that can help me out in my daily life. Currently I am reading two books called “Choosing Joy” and “Anger Management Workbook for Women” Now before you get all judgmental about the anger management book..lol…just know that a lot of these books can help you in so many different ways. Personally for me, I wanted to learn more about the science of happiness and finding joy as well as managing my anger a little better.

I started the anger management workbook for women this morning actually and let me tell you, I’m loving this book already! It’s hands on and after completing my first assessment, I already know I need to work on my anger more. Let me keep it all the way real to you all. I’ve been battling with my anger issues for years now. I’ve been going to therapy for years as well and you would think all these sessions and techniques I was given, something would have clicked, but unfortunately, it hasn’t. I’m in my mid-thirties and I need to get a hold of my anger because I learned I can’t be in any relationships or even get married unless I make some major changes. I have a question for you. “How do you handle situations where you get angry?” I would love to hear your responses in the comments below. Whether you are dealing with personal issues of depression, anxiety, stress, anger, substance abuse control, struggling with emotions, etc, it is always a good idea to do some research and to read books on them. I purchased the anger management book so I can read anatomies and other ways to handle them better.

I used to feel ashamed and embarrassed about my mental illness because I didn’t want people to look at me differently or think I was psycho or crazy. The older I got and understood my feelings and what I was going through, I started to admit to the things I was doing. I still have a whole lot to work on still, but some are learned behaviors and others is part of my personality and who I am which I’m learning more of that more often. I believe if I try new methods and new ways to handle my anger when it comes to certain situations or recurring things in my life that upsets me, I can finally breathe and start to feel normal again. So the whole purpose of this blog post is to never feel ashamed if you are dealing with personal issues. Admit them to yourself that you might need help and get the help you need by seeking a therapist or researching coping methods or books to get you through the tough times.
